Born in the remote countryside in Irrisen, the child of an Annis Hag, Mossie was dumped on the doorstep of a pair of unsuspecting villagers. Mossie discovered her talent for magic very early in life and developed a connection with an arctic hare she encountered while wandering out in the snow. Given the environment, it was natural for her to gravitate towards cold magic. Though given her nature as a Changeling, the mysterious otherworldly forces of Deception favored her.
Her parents learned of her talents, and did their best to hide them from the world as this was a village physically removed from the authority of the Jadwiga, but still close enough to know fear of the White Witches, but not respect. One day her witchery was discovered by the townsfolk and her home was set ablaze with herself and her family within. Mossie escaped from the blaze, with only small burns on her body, but the worst scars were mental.

She fled from the village, picking a direction and never looking back. As it happened, she had chosen West. She quickly found herself somewhere that Witches were abhorred far more than her home village, the Lands of the Linnorm Kings. But she couldn’t turn back, slowly she made her way through the Grungir Forest, and in Jol she was able to obtain safe passage with a caravan of Desnan nomads south into Varisia. When she reached Riddleport she managed to stow away on a merchant ship bound for Taldor (with stops along the Chelish and Thuvian coasts and in Absalom), however she was discovered when she attempted to steal food on her 3rd day, the captain of the ship listened to Mossie’s story of misery and woe, and agreed that in exchange for her laboring on the ship, she would be fed and allowed to depart at any of the ship’s stops. None of the ports they passed through suited her, none of them ever felt like home, so she remained with the ship. Eventually they reached Taldor, and Mossie decided she’d had her fill of the sea and began wandering inland along the Jalrune River. Eventually she reached the Border Wood, where she started hearing whispers of unnatural winter in the area. She followed the rumors to the town of Heldren, where our story begins. Unbeknownst to her she would soon find herself back where she came from.
